Tight poker table

Friday, August 19th, 2011

A tight poker table can be very profitable for players who know how to adapt their game to the circumstances. Tight players are very selective and you need to have really strong hands if you want to beat them. Moreover, tight players don’t like to surrender, because they have spent a while waiting for a strong hand.

There are different types of tight players, but generally you can be sure that their game is based on strong principles. Always remember that to have you give if you want to win. Don’t take irresponsible risks, because chances are that you will get run over by a monster hand. Be aware of your position at the table. Note your proximity from the dealer butting and the pre-flop raiser. If you are in a late position, then you might be able to collect a lot of information about your fellow players. However, if you’re seated immediately left of a pre-flop raiser then you might get in trouble. Early positions make you vulnerable, especially because tight players usually have very strong hands.

Try different kinds of poker tables to see what type of poker suits you best. Online poker is not online bingo, so you need to actually think before making a decision!

Poker is nowadays so popular that even former professional sports people are starting a new careers as poker pros. These sports people remain in love with victory and will do everything in their ability to win.

Former football professional Marciano Vink  (renowned for his career at Ajax and PSV between 1988 and 1993) participated in a poker tournament at Holland Casino Amsterdam a while ago. At the end of the evening, he went home with a big pile of cash, but not because of his poker play. Before the tournament kicked off, Vink decided to deposit a few Euros in the Mega Millions slot machines. Seconds later the alarm went off and there was confetti all over the place. Vink won the € 1.386.409,59 jackpot!

Fatima  Moreiro de Melo, the former hockey player had a good week as well. She did end up playing the Amsterdam poker tournament and gained $10,000. Fatima is a very solid online player, but her results at live tournaments are a bit behind. Hopefully this achievement will stimulate her to make more out her poker career!

How to recognise a beginner player

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

You are playing poker quite often at the pub of your town but because you have move to another place, you have to find another pub where you can keep playing poker.

The question is: when you arrive how do you recognise a beginner poker player?

It is quite easy, at the pub, most of the time you have a number of categories of players:

The professional one:  He is always checking all of the cards, the river and how you deal to check if you don’t   make a mistake. At the beginning, he doesn’t raise so much but when the blind is quite high, he loves raising on    the big blind and scared everyone to get the big blind. When he raises, he raises enough to scare you.

The beginner one:  This one doesn’t know how to play and talk a lot. He is scared because he doesn’t know how to play and try to get information when he plays about your game, if you have been playing for a long. Also, when he raised and he is bluffing, he is absolutely not confident. He just doesn’t want to talk anymore and feel that you can guess he is bluffing.

The bluffer one: He is checking at the beginning and observe everyone. When he has finished his analysis, he decide to raise on the weak players. Women are his favourite target.

Women players: they don’t bluff so much at the pub and play only when they have strong cards or a combination. They don’t like spending their chips. It is easy for a professional player to get their chips.

The best thing to do is to analyse your adversaries first and after that you can expect to play again them and take an advantage on them.
Good luck and have fun at the pub!

What is the best way to avoid this? It doesn’t matter if you are playing Omaha hi or any other poker game – you have to learn to manage your bankroll.

One element that makes an online poker player successful is their ability to stick to a table limit they can afford. It is extremely common for someone with a $100 bankroll to be playing a 50nl table, thinking they can beat the game. At the end of the week, there is a good chance they will be busted out and will have to reload.

Everyone wants to achieve success at the poker table quickly. However, there is an exponentially higher chance of losing your whole bankroll than making it big when you don’t manage your bankroll.
